Matthew Baker has been a licensed tour guide of New York City for a few years and is continuing to discover this magical, entertaining city he calls home.

Matt is the essential New York immigrant.  Not from another nation but from the farmlands of Missouri (another world!).  At the age of eighteen he came to New York to seek fame and fortune in the arts and immediately fell in love with the city.  Simply walking down the famed sidewalks of New York captured Matt’s fascination quickly.  But New York’s museums, galleries, theatres, jazz clubs, opera houses, and other great cultural attractions have cast a wonderful spell on him and he thinks they’ll charm you too.

Before discovering the wonderful world of tourism, Matt worked in many of the performing arts, earning an income in the theatre, movies, music, and even magic.  He has also held jobs in such varied and famous establishments as Saks Fifth Avenue, the New York Public Library, and FAO Schwarz.

Although Manhattan has almost always been Matt’s place of work, he makes his home in Astoria, Queens.  This multi-faceted neighborhood of Greek bakeries, old-time movie studios, and young artists has been Matt’s home for nearly all of the 15 years he has been in the city and it is where he and his wife, Laurie, are proudly raising their daughter, Vivien.

New York is the star of Matt’s tours, while he is its dependable narrator.  Any interests you may have can be met in this city and Matt will happily custom design a walking tour or charter bus tour to fit your specific needs and wishes.
